Women and children transported like cattle on the road to Kaslik

This photo was taken on the road to Kaslik. In broad daylight, a truck transporting women and children like cattle was casually going about its business.

This is very common in many Gulf countries. Foreign workers, mainly from the Indian sub-continent, are transported to and back from work in such a degrading manner. But I’ve never seen something like this in Lebanon.

I can only guess that these women and children are Syrian refugees with very little financial means. While Aleppo is burning and its people dying, this kind of scene makes my stomach turn.

It’s true there are too many Syrian refugees in Lebanon – 1/4 of the population – but as long as they are here, they need to be treated with dignity. This inhumane type of transport should not be allowed under any circumstances.
