When a child drifts from a country at war to the shores of a rich continent, when his lifeless lonesome body is found on a quiet beach, we have to open our eyes. Open them very wide. And understand that we have failed. We have failed as a species. We have failed as individuals. Because it happened but never should have. Not in the 21st century. Because we let it happen. Because we didn’t do anything, or so little, to stop it.
