Everybody loves to talk, write or pontificate about democracy in the Arab world. But do people over here really know what it means?
Ironically, no one seems to understand that democracy without tolerance of other people’s opinion is not democracy. Most of Arab politicians, journalists, intellectuals, activists or simple citizens believe that their opinion is not just the right one, it’s the only one. And if you dare express anything remotely different, you can expect the wrath of the gods, the four horsemen of the apocalypse and the ten plagues of Egypt to fall on your head like there’s no tomorrow.
