What Daesh really wants
To those in Lebanon who still think that Daesh is a creation of Bashar el Assad, or merely a media stunt used as a smokescreen to distract us from the Syrian regime atrocities.
To those who still think that Hezbollah’s intervention in Syria brought the terrorists to our land. And even to those who sill believe that there’s no Daesh whatsoever in Lebanon –as insane as it sounds, people like that unfortunately exist…
To those who still claim that a media blackout will be sufficient to contain the so-called Islamic State. And to those who mindlessly applaud every time an Arab leader shows some muscle in order to calm his people down, but doesn’t actually do much to eradicate Baghdadi’s caliphate.
I strongly recommend the in-depth analysis by the very serious American magazine The Atlantic. Much more serious in fact than all Lebanese information outlets, online or print, put together.
I know some will refuse to read it. It’s not easy to discover that everything you’ve been saying since Daesh appeared was, at best, very naïve.
Others will read it but will continue to talk and write nonsense. Many because they’re childishly stubborn –a common trait in this beautiful country of ours, others because they’re paid to lie.
If you want to know why some people write certain lies, always follow the money. Always check who’s signing their checks. And who’s hiding behind those checks. You'd be surprised...
Anyway, here’s the link to The Atlantic's article: “What ISIS really wants” by Graeme Wood.
Have a good read!

It is absolutely ignoring one of the big reasons why ISIS and Alqaeda are finding ground in the region:
1- The Iraqi war and all the US atrocities where a million people dead.(Scientific surveys of Iraqi deaths resulting from the first four years of the Iraq War found that between 151,000 to over one million Iraqis died as a result of conflict during this time.)
2- The Atrocities of the Arab regimes that have ruled their countries for decaded using the most brutal ways to "terrorize" their citizens and keep them calm.
3- The huge economic difficulties that are spread in those countries and that those regimes have managed with a lot of corruption. These lead to ignorance and help those sick ideas find grounds again.
I'll give you a local lebanese example.
Have you ever wondered why a city such as Tripoli is hosting such ideas from time to time?
Do you know that the latest UN statistics on Tripoli's poverty conditions states that only 20% of the overall population is middle class and above?
Don't you think that such radical ideas have economic roots?
Tripoli is an Arab model of poverty, you can easily find similar examples all around the region, especially in Syria and Iraq.
4- The enduring Palestinian Crisis where Israel backed by the US is constantly occupying new palestinian grounds and running wars whenever it wants to.
I truly believe that with such facts clearly ignored in the Atlantic Article) , it won't be difficult for ISIS to find support in those lands.
Claude please check out Noam Chomsky's opinion on the roots of ISIS. I hope you don't put him in the category of the people who get paid to say or write their opinion.
